Today’s Sense Rugby session was full of energy, imagination, and wagging tails as we explored an animal-themed adventure with our amazing participants!

What is Sense Rugby?

Sense Rugby is an evidence-informed program designed by occupational therapists and rugby players to support children who may experience difficulty participating in traditional team sports. It combines structured physical activities with therapy principles to build motor skills, social skills, emotional regulation, and confidence in a fun, inclusive environment.

Today’s Theme: Animals in Action!

Our session took on a wild twist with an exciting animal theme! Children engaged in:

  • Animal walks like bear crawls, crab walks, frog jumps, and snake slithers to build strength, coordination, and body awareness.

  • Animal-themed games that encouraged imaginative play, teamwork, turn-taking, and communication.

These activities aren’t just fun—they help kids develop core skills in a playful, supportive way. Whether it’s improving gross motor coordination, managing sensory input, or learning to work as part of a group, every movement has a purpose.

A Special Guest: Jasmine the Therapy Dog in Training

We also had the joy of being joined by Jasmine, our adorable therapy dog-in-training! Jasmine was a gentle and curious presence throughout the session—cheering the kids on, joining in the games, and offering cuddles in quieter moments. Her calm, friendly nature added an extra layer of support, especially for children who benefit from emotional regulation cues or gentle encouragement.

The presence of animals like Jasmine in therapy sessions can help reduce anxiety, build trust, and foster connection. We’re so proud of how well she interacted with the children—and how excited the kids were to have her there!

Wrapping Up

It was a fantastic session that showcased the power of play, imagination, and therapeutic support. We’re thrilled to see our participants thriving, connecting, and growing in confidence each week. A big thank you to all our families, facilitators, and of course—Jasmine—for making today such a success!

Stay tuned for more updates from Sense Rugby—we’ve got plenty more adventures ahead!
