What is an Allied Health Assistant?
An Allied Health Assistant’s (AHA) role is to support allied health practitioners in providing therapeutic care to patients. Your AHA will have a treatment plan created by your OT or Speech Pathologist (SP) individualised for your needs. They will work with you to help you achieve your goals and provide feedback to your OT or SP.

What ages/clients do you see?
We see clients of all ages with a range of diagnoses. However, referrals are assessed by the Principal Occupational Therapist to ensure the service best meets your needs. ​
Can I use NDIS Funding?
Yes, Shoalhaven Occupational Therapy sees NDIS clients who are NDIA-managed, Plan-managed, or Self-managed.
What happens at an initial assessment?
The initial assessment takes approximately 2 hours. The occupational therapist or Speech Pathologist will ask questions about the tasks you complete in your daily life and assess your need for equipment and home modifications. They may also complete assessments used in funding applications
How can occupational therapy help me improve my daily functioning?
Occupational therapy focuses on improving your ability to perform daily tasks, such as self-care activities, work-related tasks, and leisure activities, through therapeutic interventions and adaptations.

We may recommend lifestyle modifications such as dietary changes, ergonomic adjustments, stress management techniques, and activity pacing to support your treatment plan.

Pain management strategies may include therapeutic exercises, modalities (e.g., heat, cold, electrical stimulation), manual therapy techniques, relaxation techniques, and ergonomic modifications.

We will discuss any potential risks or side effects associated with specific therapies or exercises and take necessary precautions to minimize them.
What should I do if I experience any worsening symptoms or unexpected changes during treatment?

What is Speech Pathology?
Speech Pathology is an allied health profession dedicated to assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. Speech pathologists, also known as speech therapists, address challenges related to speech production, language comprehension and expression, fluency, voice, social communication, and swallowing difficulties. Their goal is to enhance individuals' ability to communicate effectively and manage feeding or swallowing issues, thereby improving overall quality of life.
Do you see clients with aged care funding?
Yes, we see clients with aged care funding. You can submit a referral or call for more information.
Do you have a waitlist?
Yes, there is a waitlist to ensure a high-quality service for existing clients. The waitlist is prioritised according to the level of need. Staff will prioritise your referral once the referral form is received. Our typical wait time is 4 weeks. If your situation changes, please contact the office to discuss your needs. We have a range of group programs that allow immediate access to therapy.
What are your fees?
Fees vary depending on your needs and will be discussed at your intake meeting. Charges may include face-to-face appointments, non-face-to-face supports, travel, and report writing.
How do I make a referral?
