Today, we had the pleasure of being invited to speak at the Shoalhaven Ladies Probus Club at the Bomaderry Bowling Club. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with an engaged and welcoming group of local women who are passionate about staying informed and proactive about health, safety, and independence.
We shared practical insights into how occupational therapists and speech pathologists can support aged care, NDIS, and DVA clients with:
🛠 Assistive Technology & Home Modifications

We explored the many ways that everyday living can be made safer and more accessible — from simple aids like jar openers, shower chairs, and bed sticks to complex solutions such as stair lifts, rails, ramp access, and bathroom modifications. We also spoke about how assistive technology funding through NDIS or DVA can help make these options more affordable and accessible for those who need them.
🧯 Falls Prevention
Our discussion focused on the importance of identifying fall risks in the home, maintaining strength and balance, and using supportive equipment or modifications (like non-slip flooring or sensor lighting) to reduce the risk of injury. Preventing a fall before it happens is one of the most effective ways to preserve independence as we age.
⚡ Energy Conservation Techniques

We also talked through some simple but effective energy conservation strategies — such as seated tasks, pacing, planning your day, and positioning items for easy access — to help those living with fatigue, chronic pain, or disability manage their day-to-day life with greater ease.
