Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) are often the quiet achievers of therapy teams — but their impact is huge.
At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, our AHAs are valued, supported, and respected as an essential part of the client journey. This isn’t a role where you’re “just helping out.” It’s a role where you actively contribute to meaningful therapy outcomes every day.
What does an Allied Health Assistant do?
AHAs work alongside Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists to support therapy programs in practical, hands-on ways.
Depending on the role and experience, AHAs may support:
Therapy program implementation
Home program development and resources
Skill-building sessions under delegation
Therapy preparation and equipment organisation
Data collection and progress tracking
Client engagement and confidence-building
This work makes therapy more consistent and helps clients practise skills between clinician sessions.
Why AHAs love working at SCTSG
Our AHAs often say they love the role because it’s:
Varied — no two days are the same
Hands-on — you get to be involved in real therapy work
Meaningful — you see progress and change
Supportive — you’re never expected to figure things out alone
Growth-focused — you build skills and confidence over time
A stepping stone into allied health careers
Many AHAs are studying OT, Speech Pathology, Psychology, Education, or related fields — and this role can be an incredible foundation.
Working in a therapy environment gives you exposure to:
Clinical reasoning and goal planning
Communication strategies
Behaviour and emotional regulation supports
Client-centred practice
Professional boundaries and ethics
You’ll be supported, trained, and included
We don’t throw people into the deep end. We provide guidance, structure, and mentorship so AHAs feel confident and capable.
At SCTSG, AHAs are included as part of the team — not treated as “extra staff.”
