At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, our commitment to best practice and client safety is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why our team recently took part in a hands-on professional development session with the experts from Active Mobility, focusing on hoists, slings, and transfer aids.
This training was designed to strengthen our clinical understanding of safe manual handling techniques, appropriate equipment selection, and NDIS-funded assistive technology options—all essential skills when supporting clients with complex physical needs.
What We Covered
The session included:
Demonstrations of mobile hoists, ceiling hoists, and standing lifters
Practical training in sling selection and positioning
Safe transfer techniques for a range of functional levels
Discussions on NDIS AT application processes and evidence requirements
Case examples to support clinical reasoning and risk assessment
We explored common challenges clients and carers face at home and learned how to recommend the most effective and client-centred solutions, balancing independence with safety.
Why This Training Matters
When it comes to transfers, safety is non-negotiable. Poor technique or ill-fitting equipment can lead to injury for both clients and support workers. By upskilling in this area, our team is better equipped to:
Prescribe the right equipment for each individual’s goals and needs
Provide training and support to families and carers
Reduce injury risks and improve quality of life for clients with mobility challenges
A Big Thank You
We’d like to thank the team at Active Mobility for delivering such an engaging and informative session. Their knowledge and practical insights will directly inform how we support clients in both clinic and home settings.
