Cancer affects so many families, businesses, and communities — and last night at the Stars of Nowra event, the Shoalhaven community came together in an incredible show of connection, generosity, and support.
Hosted at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre, Stars of Nowra brings together local business owners, community leaders, and personalities who step outside of their comfort zones to dance and raise funds for Cancer Council NSW. The event supports vital cancer research, advocacy, prevention programs, and support services for individuals and families impacted by cancer.
For Directors Claire and Nathan, this event holds a deeply personal meaning.
Cancer has personally touched our families, and we know firsthand the impact it can have — emotionally, physically, and financially. Throughout her career as an occupational therapist, Claire has also had the privilege of supporting many individuals living with cancer, helping people maintain independence, participate in meaningful activities, and navigate the challenges that can come alongside diagnosis and treatment.
That is why events like Stars of Nowra matter so much.
What stood out most last night was the incredible sense of community. Businesses from across the Shoalhaven came together not as competitors, but as a united community supporting an important cause. From fundraising efforts to sponsorships, cheering on the dancers, and simply showing up to support, the room was filled with generosity and genuine care for others.
It was also wonderful to see stars from previous years returning to support this year’s dancers (including our Director Nathan who danced in 2025). That ongoing connection highlights what makes the Shoalhaven such a special place — people continue to show up for one another long after the spotlight fades.
Stars of Nowra has become one of the region’s most recognised community fundraising events, helping raise significant funds for Cancer Council NSW and the support services that assist local families affected by cancer.
The atmosphere throughout the evening was filled with encouragement, courage, laughter, and emotion. Watching local community members step onto the dance floor after weeks of training was inspiring, and it was clear how much work and heart had gone into every performance.
At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we strongly believe in the importance of community connection and giving back. Supporting local events that create positive impact aligns closely with our values as a business and as individuals.
To everyone involved in Stars of Nowra — the organisers, dancers, dance teachers, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters — thank you for helping make a difference for individuals and families affected by cancer.
The Shoalhaven community should be incredibly proud.
