Why We Built a Different Kind of Allied Health Workplace

Across Australia, allied health professionals are increasingly speaking about burnout, workforce pressures, administrative burden, and the challenge of maintaining work-life balance in healthcare.
At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we believe clinicians deserve better.
We didn’t set out to simply create another allied health clinic. We set out to build the kind of workplace we wished existed earlier in our own careers — one where therapists feel genuinely supported, valued, empowered, and inspired to build long-term careers in allied health.
Founded during COVID by Occupational Therapist Claire Carson and business manager Nathan Carson, the organisation began with mobile community-based therapy services delivered throughout the Shoalhaven. What started from the boot of a car has since grown into a multidisciplinary allied health organisation supporting clients across the Shoalhaven and Illawarra regions.
But despite our growth, one thing has remained unchanged: our commitment to culture.
A Workplace Built Around Support
Many allied health professionals enter healthcare because they are passionate about helping people. Unfortunately, many workplaces focus heavily on productivity, KPIs, and administrative demands, often at the expense of clinician wellbeing.
At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we have intentionally focused on building systems and supports that allow clinicians to spend more time doing meaningful work with clients.
This includes:
extensive administration support
allied health assistant support
mentoring and supervision
multidisciplinary collaboration
structured professional development
AI-assisted systems to reduce paperwork
flexible work arrangements
team-based culture and collaboration
We recognise that clinicians achieve the best outcomes when they are properly supported themselves.
Moving Beyond KPI Culture
One of the core values underpinning our workplace is that clinicians are more than numbers.
Rather than focusing purely on productivity metrics, we focus on:
meaningful client outcomes
sustainable workloads
professional growth
collaborative practice
innovation
clinician wellbeing
This approach has helped us create a positive workplace culture where therapists can continue learning, developing, and enjoying their careers long-term.
Innovation in Allied Health
Healthcare is changing rapidly, and innovation is becoming increasingly important in supporting both clinicians and clients.
At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we actively embrace:
innovative service delivery models
AI-assisted systems
technology to reduce administration
flexible therapy options
community-based programs
collaborative healthcare models
By investing in systems and technology, we aim to reduce repetitive administrative tasks and allow clinicians to focus on what matters most — client care.
The Importance of Community
As a regional allied health provider, community remains central to everything we do.
We are proud to support clients and families throughout:
Shoalhaven
Shellharbour
Illawarra
surrounding South Coast communities
Our clinicians have the opportunity to work closely with local families, schools, healthcare providers, community organisations, and support networks to create meaningful long-term outcomes.
Building Sustainable Allied Health Careers
The future of allied health depends on creating sustainable workplaces where clinicians can thrive professionally and personally.
We believe this requires:
flexibility
strong leadership
supportive systems
innovation
collaboration
ongoing learning
genuine workplace culture
At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we remain committed to building a workplace where clinicians feel supported, valued, and excited about the future of allied health.
If you are looking for an Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, or Allied Health Assistant career within a supportive and innovative multidisciplinary team, we would love to hear from you.
