Community Occupational Therapy offers something many clinicians are searching for — genuine variety, autonomy, and meaningful impact.

Adult Occupational Therapists support clients to improve independence, safety, participation, and quality of life across home, community, and workplace settings.

One day may involve supporting a young adult transitioning to independent living. Another may focus on neurological rehabilitation, mental health support, falls prevention, or equipment prescription.

At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, adult Occupational Therapists work with clients across:

  • Neurological conditions

  • Physical disability

  • Mental health

  • Psychosocial disability

  • Functional decline

  • Chronic health conditions

  • NDIS support needs

Morning: Functional Assessments & Goal Planning

The day often begins with a home or community visit to complete a functional assessment.

Occupational Therapists look at:

  • Daily living skills

  • Mobility and transfers

  • Home safety

  • Community participation

  • Fatigue management

  • Equipment needs

  • Cognitive and psychosocial functioning

The goal is always client-centred — supporting individuals to participate in the activities that matter most to them.

Midday: Assistive Technology & Independence

Adult community OT frequently involves assistive technology recommendations such as:

  • Mobility equipment

  • Shower chairs

  • Transfer supports

  • Pressure care equipment

  • Home access solutions

  • Daily living aids

Therapists combine clinical reasoning with practical problem solving to improve independence and reduce barriers.

Afternoon: Collaboration & Reports

Adult Occupational Therapists regularly collaborate with:

  • Support coordinators

  • Families and carers

  • Builders and suppliers

  • Allied health teams

  • Case managers

  • Support workers

Therapists may also complete:

  • Functional capacity assessments

  • Progress reports

  • Home modification reports

  • NDIS documentation

  • Goal reviews

At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, administrative support and flexible work practices help therapists maintain sustainable workloads.
